MAGNUM - 2018 Hirsch 'Old Vineyard' Pinot Noir - SOLD OUT
In 1980, my father David Hirsch planted his first vines at Hirsch, using cuttings brought from Oregon and planted on their own roots. The vineyard is a field blend of the heritage Pinot Noir clones of Pommard and Wädenswil. Today just one acre of the Old Vineyard remains, and we farm it with painstaking love and attention, coaxing tiny yields from these gnarled old vines overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
The Old Vineyard Pinot Noir represents the vision of David and our longtime vineyard manager Everardo Robledo to craft Pinot Noir of heart and honesty on the far Sonoma Coast. In 2018, the Old Vineyard yielded just three barrels, less than 75 cases. This vintage has a fresh, lifted fruit profile, with notes of plum skin, wild thyme and raspberries. It is a structured and relatively austere wine, with a complex, noble character.
