2020 Hirsch 'Family Blend' Estate Pinot Noir
David and Jasmine at the Vineyard in the early 1990s.
The Hirsch Family Blend Estate Pinot Noir is our selection of the most delicious and happiness-inducing barrels from the vintage. This wine has the drinkability and lustiness of our Bohan Dillon Pinot, but with heightened concentration and complexity. The result is a Pinot Noir that combines hedonism with gravitas. While this wine can certainly age, there is tremendous pleasure to be found in the youthful fruit of the Family Blend.
A note on the label: this is a sketch of David Hirsch, in one of his favorite Hawaiian shirts, enjoying a glass of Hirsch Pinot Noir after a long day in the field. This picture is an encapsulation of David’s character: thoughtful and hard-working, yet ever open to the pleasures of a great bottle of wine.
The 2020 Family Blend is grounded in Block 8, which makes up 30% of the blend and imparts concentrated, black cherry fruit and notes of ripe plum skin. Block 6, an old Swan parcel on the West Ridge, is 25% of the blend; it gives the wine elegance and an aromatic intensity. Blocks 23 and 25 are responsible for the wine’s structure and notable spiciness. Last but not least, the 30-year-old Block 11 imparts charm and juiciness to the wine.

We recommend decanting this wine for one hour before drinking, if opened within 1-2 years of release.
