2013 Hirsch 'Block 8' Estate Pinot Noir
The 2013 Block 8 Estate Pinot Noir is from one of the finest parcels at Hirsch. It is our only block with soils predominantly from the Boomer (Mendocino) formation. It is characterized by a reddish tint from high amounts of iron oxide, and the rock and gravel content in the soil averages 55-70% throughout. This results in superb drainage, allowing the roots to run deep and pervasive. Block 8 is divided into 5 sub-parcels, all planted in 1993 to the heritage pinot noir clone of Pommard mixed with Wädenswil. It produces wines with intense but elegant tannins, concentrated fruit at moderate alcohol levels, lithe acidity and complex aromatics.
The 2013 Block 8 Estate Pinot Noir has plush fruit, well-integrated tannins, charming aromatics, and that ineffable Block 8 character. In this wine you will find a pure and focused expression of one of the most unique sections of the Hirsch Vineyard.
