2022 Hirsch 'Family Blend' Estate Pinot Noir

The Hirsch Family Blend Estate Pinot Noir is our winemaker’s selection of the most delicious and happiness-inducing barrels from the vintage. This wine has the drinkability and lustiness of our Bohan Dillon Pinot, but with heightened concentration and complexity. The result is a Pinot Noir that combines hedonism with refinement. While this wine can certainly age, there is tremendous pleasure to be found in the youthful fruit of the Family Blend.
The label is a sketch of David Hirsch, in one of his favorite Hawaiian shirts, enjoying a glass of Hirsch Pinot after a long day in the field. This picture is an encapsulation of David’s character: thoughtful and hard-working, yet ever open to the pleasures of a great bottle of wine.
The 2022 Family Blend is grounded in Block 11, which makes up 30% of the blend this year and imparts elegance, aromatics and freshness to the wine. Block 8 as always plays a large role, (20% of the blend this vintage) bringing in notes of black cherries and cassis. The West Ridge is also well-represented in the 2022 Family Blend, adding a silky texture and elevated aromatics.
TASTING NOTES: 2022 is a very fine year for the Family Blend, perhaps the best vintage yet. The wine opens with a hedonistic mix of black cherries, fresh strawberries and rose petals. With air, notes of plum skin, dried cranberries and wild mint emerge. On the palate, the attack is rich and juicy, with wonderful density, yet fresh and quaffable. This is exactly the wine Family Blend is intended to be: luscious and drinkable, with complexity, energy and refinement.
SERVICE NOTES: This wine is incredibly expressive and can be drunk now with great enjoyment.
