2008 Bohan Dillon – The Family Blend: In honor of the fifth vintage of the Bohan Dillon, we have selected six outstanding barrels from the 2008 vintage to make our first ever Bohan Dillon “Family Blend” Pinot Noir. This is a 150-case, mailing list only wine that represents a selection of the very best barrels from 2008. We would like to show our appreciation for your support by offering you this exceptional and limited wine, which captures the spirit of Bohan Dillon, with a heightened purity and complexity. It is a deep, sensuous wine that pairs fantastically well with highly flavored cuisine.
Tasting Notes: Ruby hued, with topnotes of plum, cherry, tobacco and cedar, tinged with hints of loamy earth and wood smoke. The rich plum and cherry fruit is complimented by darker spice notes, supported by vibrant acidity and fine tannins.
This wine can be enjoyed now for its youthful exuberance to accompany holiday fare, yet is classically structured to reward the patient, as it will broaden and reveal layers of flavor and texture with time.
2008 THE FAMILY BLEND - 147 Cases bottled 10/13/09; alcohol: 14.2%; pH: 3.52; TA: .70
2008 Hirsch Chardonnay: We are working with the chardonnay to learn how to use the variety as a lens into our site. For this reason you will find the focus is on the fruit’s natural acidity. We picked the grapes September 19-20. Fermentation was done 11% in fourteen-gallon glass demijohns; 53% in stainless steel tanks; and 36% in oak. Total new oak was 16%. When the ferment went dry, half of the stainless wine was racked to neutral oak for aging. This is a unique wine with an intense individuality derived from this place, especially the high gravel and sandstone content of the soils. Yet, it’s true to the variety.
Tasting notes: Citrus & lemon curd followed by earth, minerals, vanilla bean, caramel & a mélange of spices: the breath of a goddess! The palate shows apricot flesh & a rich creamy mouth feel. The structure is excellent & leads to a long distance finish.
